Today we did not go to our regular assignments because Safe Passage asked our team to help put together the Vívires bags. These are given to families at the end of month if their children have missed no more than 2 days of school during the month. When children attend school parents are losing a source of income because children work in the dump neighborhood. Or, at times the older children are needed at home to care for younger siblings. Hanley started this to encourage parents to send children to school.
It took all day for our team to assemble 300 bags. In the morning students put together 300 bags of beans, 300 of sugar, 300 of salt and other essential foods. In the afternoon we assembled the family bags assembly-line style. They also contained laundry soap, broth, and many other household items. Tomorrow will be fun because we'll meet the families as they come in to participate in activities and receive their supplies.
The Day Care Center needed exta help so Jack was there in the morning and Ben in the afteroon. The children love the boys so it was an easy decision to send them down there. They enjoy interacting with positive male role models in their lives.
